Job Introduction

Digital Text Formats is a new team looking for a creative senior journalist who is keen to innovate and help create new ways to tell stories for a digital audience.

The team leads efforts to develop formats that meet varying user needs, from Tik Tok- inspired primers to customisable articles that tailor to the reader. It is central to our plans to reach and engage broader audiences on our digital platforms.

Main Responsibilities

The Senior Journalist will work on development, testing and rollout of text formats across News and WS languages. They will drive adoption of formats and best practice across News and WS, focusing on delivering better and more accessible experiences for users and better value for the business

The Senior Journalist will work closely with partners in News, WS languages, N&R, D+E and Audiences.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate should have:

  • Demonstrable experience of generating and developing new ideas for reaching readers on digital platforms
  • Thorough understanding of how to tell stories for different audiences, with an emphasis on making news accessible and engaging
  • Demonstrable experience of using analytics tools to develop ideas and grow audiences
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a collaborative way with journalists in different teams in news and beyond
  • In-depth understanding of the tools and techniques used to produce text and visuals for digital news audiences
  • Creative original ideas for new formats to help us meet the audience challenge

You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.
