Job description
The Outpatients Services Department for Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our busy outpatient departments at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) and also incorporating the Royal South Hants Hospital (RSH).
The Outpatient Department sees approximately 80,000 patients a year. These departments, which span three floors at UHS and ENT at the RSH cover disciplines including medical and surgical, hepatology, gastroenterology, HBP, colorectal and general surgery. The RSH, ENT department, which is approximately four miles away, includes paediatric and head & neck clinics.
The department currently operates Monday – Friday 08.00 – 18.00 with plans to extend into evening and weekend working.
Applicants will be flexible and adaptable to clinic requirements and the ability to work in all areas when required.
Training is given on the varying skill requirements for each department/clinic/discipline.

Your Responsibilities
What you’ll do
- Assist Consultants in clinic with equipment and patient safety
- Ensure area is appropriately prepared and stocked for each clinic or treatment session.
- Observations, may include Blood pressure, Temperature, Respirations etc.
- Collecting pathological specimens e.g. urine
- Venesection
- Decontamination of equipment with specialised 3 step process
- Cleaning/Restocking
- Good communication skills
- Cross site working is essential for this role (UHS and RSH)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Be a good team player and able to work independently as required.
