In our pathology team. You will join an established team of experienced the Haematology day unit staff. This reflects the extended role of the traditional “health-care assistant”. You will support registered nurses and clinicians in delivering a high standard of care in a timely manner, as well as playing an essential role in performing clinical diagnostic/investigations under the guidance of the registered nursing staff and medical team. Main duties of the job Greet and assist relatives/carers in a polite and professional manner To book/register patients on EPR. To obtain observations and report findings to nursing team such as: temperature, pulse, resp rate, blood pressure, oxygen sats, urinalysis, weight, ECG’s To respond in a health emergency ie: cardiac arrest Be able to recognise a sick or deteriorating patient and escalate appropriately Following training, to collect, label and dispatch blood and specimens. To undertake specific clinical tasks following competency assessment including: Cannulation / Venepuncture venesection blood collection and labeling Assessing Bone Marrow procedure To be aware of the trusts Infection Control, Moving and Handling and other relevant procedures and protocols To assist Medical and Nursing staff during interventional procedures To undertake light domestic duties as necessary ie trolley making, using tea trolley for the patients, daily cleaning and preparing area for the following day appointments, maintaining high standard at all times Ensure patients nutritional needs are met To deal with patients property in a safe and secure manner Ability to adjust to demands of unit Ability to push wheelchairs/trolleys and assist with patient’s needs as required. To work under supervision of a Registered Nurse/ Nurse Practitioner/Clinician when required and support registered staff. Liaise with ambulance control regarding the progress of transport home, record outcomes of any discussions in the system used. To be aware of the need for confidentiality both with the written and spoken word. To comply with health and safety policies with regular regard to the rules and procedures carried out in the event of a fire. To report all accidents and incidents to the nurse in charge of the ward. Complete clinical incidents as necessary To support and undertake service improvement and project development as appropriate
