Band 3 Ophthalmology A post has become available within the Ophthalmology Department for a Senior Healthcare support worker, providing high standards of patient centred care, maintaining the efficient running of the Ophthalmology Department. This post will cover maternity leave and is therefore a temporary post. The post holder will work closely with the nursing team in the day to day provision of patient care under the supervision and /or direction of the registered nurses. This will require the deployment of communication and interpersonal skills. The post holder will carry out Visual Field testing to a high standard, ensuring the individual needs of patients are met, maintaining the patients’ dignity and privacy, acting in the patients' best interests at all times. The post holder will be responsible for measuring patient’s glasses using the focimeter and using appropriate prescription for the Visual Field test. The Post holder will be responsible for testing and recording of visual acuity. The Post holder will be required to administer eye drops following training and the completion of competency based training under supervision of the medical staff/nursing staff. The Post holder will be responsible for taking images using the Ocular Coherence Tomographer (OCT) following training and competency assessment The Post holder will be responsible for carryout ophthalmic photography following training and competency assessment. The post holder will be required to carry out such basic procedures delegated by registered members of staff and which the have achieved competency following training and competency achieved. These may include pachymetry and measuring a patient’s refractive status using an auto refractor.
