Reporting directly to Head of Diagnostics, OBU Global Medical this position will play a key leadership role, working to define and deliver medical strategies across a tumor area and will work collaboratively with other Medical/Medical Diagnostics, Commercial Diagnostic & Precision Medicine colleagues on cross Tumor asset strategies.
Partnering directly with the Tumour area Vice President and their leadership teams you will bring in depth scientific, medical and diagnostic expertise to ensure shape single and multi-indications strategies & plans to deliver world class leading medical and diagnostic insights to bring to our patients world class medicines
The Diagnostic Senior GMAL ensures the timely, high quality input into global medical and lifecycle plans, to support optimal in-market companion diagnostics / testing solutions that enable optimal treatment choices and support patient access to the right drugs.
Accountable for developing strategic and long-term partnerships with relevant external Oncology stakeholders and decision makers, through the development of AZ’s scientific leadership with advocacy, scientific organizations, thought leaders and Health Technology Assessment (HTA)/payers organizations to help inform and develop a best in class diagnostics capabilities aligned with the medical needs of our portfolio.
Based on a deep scientific understanding of the testing environment and the pathology of the tumor/micro-environment, the post holder is accountable for leading on defining strategic diagnostic interventions and tailored testing solutions for our portfolio of drugs as well as the medical issues on each disease and testing pathways
You will also be responsible for the leadership of all Medical Affairs activities related to diagnostics, in collaboration with the other Tumor/Asset medical leaders, including:
Scientific advisory boards
Diagnostic publications integration into tumor/asset publication plans
Medical evidence generation strategy and plans
Integration of the Diagnostic plans into the Tumor/Asset specific medical plans
Input into the global externally sponsored research and collaborations
Diagnostic confidence generation to include symposia, summits, internal and external education
You will contribute to the broader strategic planning to build Astra Zeneca's medical leadership in the medical diagnostics arena.
You will deliver medical diagnostics insights into the development and execution of the overall Tumor/Asset strategy
Ensures that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures and external regulations
Requirements
Essential
Minimum 6+ years of senior/specialized experience within pharma/life sciences and/or medical experience (e.g. significant clinical/academic/medical affairs agency roles/organisations)
Advanced Scientific degree preferred (PhD, PharmD) or equivalent medical/scientific qualifications and/or significant industry and/or therapeutic experience
Significant Diagnostics/Assay development/deployment knowledge and experience
Understanding of drug development and commercialization processes including understanding of outcomes research /payer access issues
Experience and ability to lead and provide strategic leadership across functional working groups and teams within a complex matrix organisation
Strong stakeholder and communication skills with a strong situational Influencing style/ability
Experience and ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive organisational relationships
Experience of developing strategy and translating strategy into action plans
Proven ability to generate, analyze and interpret clinical trial and published data
Track record of successfully developing and executing Medical Plans both in terms of evidence generation, scientific communications and external expert engagements
Ability to manage multiple projects and products simultaneously to ensure timely, on-target and within budget accomplishment of tasks
Strong Global Project Management experience
Strong analytical interpretation and communication capability translating clinical trial and published data into strong scientific narratives for various audiences
Desirable
Oncology experience is preferred
Expertise in product launches and/or mature brand development advantageous
