THE ROLE
Braze is seeking a Senior Employment Counsel to join its dynamic and high-performing legal team. This position will sit in the United Kingdom and report to the Global Director of Employment Law based in New York.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a counselor and advisor to the People team, the Legal team, and senior management and work on a broad range of employment matters in a rapidly growing company, with a particular focus on employment matters arising in Europe.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Provide counsel to the People team and business leaders on employment matters in non-U.S. jurisdictions, including the UK, France, and Germany
- Advise on a wide range of issues, including recruiting, hiring, compensation, performance and absenteeism management, leaves, disciplinary action, reductions in force, restructurings, terminations, discrimination, harassment, pay equity, mergers and acquisitions, employee covenants, accommodations, worker classifications, and setting up in new countries
- Evaluate and communicate legal risks associated with complaints, grievances, and other legal matters
- Handle pre-litigation employment claims and settlement negotiations and oversee and partner with outside counsel on litigation
- Draft and review employment-related policies and agreements (e.g., offer letters, confidentiality agreements, separation agreements, settlement agreements, employment agreements, and employee policies and handbooks)
- Develop employment-related training programs, and train the People team and business leaders on employment-related matters
- Oversee and occasionally conduct internal employment investigations involving alleged violations of law
- Monitor and draft submissions to regulatory agencies that involve employment-related reporting obligations
WHO YOU ARE
- UK Qualified Lawyer with current practising certificate
- At least 5 years of combined experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably as an employment lawyer in a multinational, U.S. based company
- Qualified to practice law as in-house counsel in London, United Kingdom
- Familiar with and have working knowledge of the employment laws of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build close partnerships with business and legal stakeholders
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
- Ability to translate legal requirements into understandable risk-based recommendations for the business and legal functions
- Excellent written/verbal communication and negotiation skills
- Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude
