Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Engineering and Head of Renewables, you will be expected to assist and support in the production of design information for specific projects. This will include producing concept designs and producing fully detailed designs for the projects team to install. This will at times include initial project conceptual work, site investigations and surveys, client meetings and input into project submissions and presentations. The role of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer will involve assisting in setting of technical standards, the detailed design of all electrical aspects for projects and liaison with the wider design and installation teams.
Working within a team of different grades of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers you will be responsible for significant elements of the Electrical design, including power provision and controls for energy centres, boiler/ heat pumps and circulating pumps and other ancillary equipment. Other key duties involve the writing of specifications for the procurement of systems and equipment.
Along with project accountability, you will be responsible for more junior design engineers of varying levels including Trainee / Juniors and Engineers. This will include allocation of work, reviewing and checking of documentation along with ensuring all projects responsibilities are delivered on time and to programme.

Main Duties
- Ability to understand existing building services systems and develop robust more efficient alternatives supported by calculations and predictive analysis. Demonstrating to our clients the validity of our proposed design solutions.
- Design of distributed energy schemes, energy centres, heat pump system design.
- Provide support on projects.
- Appraisal and interpretation of the client’s requirements.
- Have an awareness of cost implications within design.
- Effectively deal with design issues and minimise their impact.
- Ability to design systems in the form of calculations, equipment selection and process operation.
- Liaising with external designers, customers and Avrenim’s in-house project teams.
- Compliance with CDM requirements and our in in-house design processes.
- Ability to design systems in the form of schematics, calculations, equipment selection, detailed drawings and BMS control operating strategies.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice with company procedures.
- Assistance in specifying the mechanical or electrical aspects for tendering works.
- Work closely with the client to further develop relationships and promote the company.
- Promote and comply with the company’s policies on equality and health and safety both in the delivery of service and the treatment of others.
- Engage with your line manager in reviewing your performance and planning your development and your team’s development.
- Carry out other duties consistent with the nature and responsibilities of your post.
What we are looking for
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
- A Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
- Good understanding of boiler/CHP/ heat pump systems design principles.
- Understanding of steam system design principles would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of heating/cooling distribution design principles is essential.
- Understanding of current building regulations (particularly Approved documents G, L & J with an understanding of Approved documents B, E, F, H, M & P an advantage).
- Understanding of relevant British and European standards.
- Knowledge of CHP, biomass, gasification and other renewable technologies.
- Competent in AutoCad.
- A familiarity with National specifications (NES/NBS).
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Drive, people management and team working skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good analytical skills for energy demand / carbon reduction analysis.
