JOB TITLE: Senior Director of Transportation
REPORTS TO: VP of Transportation
COMPENSATION: $185,000 - $200,000 Annually

ABOUT US:
We are one of the largest 3rd Party Logistics Providers currently operating on the West Coast, specializing in transportation and distribution services. We are utilizing our subject matter expertise and broad customer support to expand our service portfolio in new markets across the United States. Our aggressive growth plans require us to hire a Senior Director of Transportation with proven freight brokerage expertise, strong leadership skills and extensive transportation operational knowledge.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Senior Director of Transportation will spearhead our national freight brokerage expansion plans while also managing our existing brokerage services in California. This will involve managing a team of freight brokers in Northern California in planning and executing transportation services, scheduling negotiating buy and sell rates, field support, and equipment management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Manage team of freight brokers in northern California in the planning and execution of transportation services for programmed business and spot business
- Measure performance to ensure internal operating efficiency and external customer satisfaction
- Provide subject matter expertise in developing a national OTR brokerage strategy to supplement the existing port drayage brokerage business
- Consult with the team in the development of next generation technology platforms that solidify GSC as an industry thought-leader
- Negotiate competitive buy and sell rates in support of existing company practices
- Manage and optimize the company’s fleet of assets including M&R activities
- Train and develop staff in the department in both the strategic development and tactical execution of all transportation related activities
- In conjunction with the Commercial Organization, manage client relationships and retention by ensuring the highest level of service is delivered from an operational perspective
- Identify service improvement opportunities and develop solutions that positively impact the quality of service to maintain GSC’s reputation as the “Gold Standard”
- In conjunction with the Transportation Team, understand the company’s customer satisfaction goals and ensure they are met within any program identified for implementation.
- Complete all required reports and paperwork timely and accurately
- Establish and maintain professional internal and external written and verbal communication
- In coordination with the COO and CFO, develop, implement, and monitor department budget; manage expenses within approved budget constraints
- Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop field services staff; manage schedules and workflow
- Assign duties and monitor quality of work; assure staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations
- Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively work to promote and recognize performance
- Keep up to date on overall activities of the team; identify problem areas and take corrective action as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field or equivalent strongly preferred
- Proven track record of experience in the freight brokerage industry
- At least eight years related experience or equivalent
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading teams, supervising and motivating subordinates

- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow

- Excellent computer skills; Word, Excel, and shipping/inventory software programs (i.e. Transportation Management Systems)

- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, on the phone, electronically, or through other means to individuals and groups
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
