We are currently seeking an individual to join the CIIOM Risk team in the role of Senior Credit Manager, (Retail Banking).
In this role, the role holder is required to support the development of policies and standards required to manage credit risks within the Group’s risk appetite and tolerances, oversee their effective implementation and objectively monitor and challenge the credit risk activities conducted by CIIOM WPB (Retail Banking). The role holder has a delegated lending authority and will be responsible for reviewing and approving WPB credit applications under a delegated lending authority.
Other activities to include:
- To provide advice and guidance to first line of defense on credit related submissions, approve transactions and annual reviews within personal approval authorities, making recommendations upwards for those outside personal lending authority.
- Perform collection duties to assist in the recovery of secured and unsecured debts across both portfolios. Corresponding with customers and leveraging expertise of UK Collections and Legal functions.
- To ensure that risk contributes to the development of the business, participates in the maintenance of a stable lending portfolio within Group policy objectives and maintains appropriate credit standards. Adhering to and actively supporting established policies and procedures.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate credit related MI to track performance, and manage the portfolio in a way that helps to drive growth whilst remaining within risk appetite. Support production of relevant papers for Governance - Meetings (both local and Regional), as required.
- Assist in preparation and review of regulatory reporting where required.
- To attend, co-ordinate and manage projects as required and contribute to ongoing working groups, as required, including new product and proposition development.
- Support and/or develop the CIIOM WPB Credit team (which including the role holder is a team of 4) to influence the operational effectiveness of the functional unit. Supporting and embedding change initiatives within the team.
- To ensure good interaction with the UK Credit teams and understanding of UK owned credit processes and drive strong collaboration and visibility of items that CIIOM requires awareness of.
- Deputy to the Head of Retail Credit Risk WPB.
Role Context
- The job holder is responsible for Credit Risk for both parts of CIIOM WPB’s retail book: Expat lending to expatriates resident around the world and CIIOM islands (lending to locally resident clients in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man). WPB has a strategic aim to extend its lending proposition across Expat and Islands and the role holder will have a key role to play in this. For its islands proposition there is likely to be a desire to tailor UK strategies to the local environment where appropriate. The CIIOM WPB business is a strong strategic business which is receiving investment and where Risk needs to partner strongly as the business is transformed.
- The role holder reports to the Head of Retail Credit Risk WPB.
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- Decision making skills, ability to assess and balance risk and reward, both within and outside procedural guidelines.
- Strong credit analytic and judgmental skills sufficient to identify and resolve problems while maintaining time scales and quality of output is desirable.
- Good communication and negotiating skills.
- Ability to tailor written and verbal information to varying audiences.
- General knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements relating to the role.
- Good knowledge of the HSBC Group Retail Credit BIM, its operations and products.
- Assertiveness and diplomacy skills.
- Initiative and problem solving.
- Strong time management skills – ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise as necessary.
