Job summary
As a Senior Carer you will work to provide exemplary standards of care to our Service Users whilst acting as a source of support and role model to the Care Assistant team.
The role will also require a level of support to our office based Management team. This will also include conducting quality assurance based tasks such as spot checks and direct observations with community care assistants.
Your hours of work will be as rostered. A degree of flexibility will be required in the approach to the amount and times of hours worked. This is to ensure full cover of all visits during times of staff shortages, and to allow for situations during which the Senior Carer’s presence or assistance is required. The role will predominantly be based within the community.
This role is considered as a position of trust and as such comes with considerable responsibility with regard to representing Beaumont Healthcare and safeguarding all aspects of confidentiality. Senior Carers are seen as senior members of staff and as such their conduct should be exemplary at all times.
Main duties and responsibilities senior carer:
In addition to all tasks undertaken as Care Assistant the senior carer should use his/her ability to assist the manager with the following:
1. Liaise with all involved in the care of the service users and report back to the Line
Manager.
2. To complete necessary assessments for new and current service users to ensure service provision meets all current needs and legislative requirements
3. To attend company quality assurance reviews with service users.
4. Senior carers are a vital link between other compnay’s and all health professionals.
5. To complete reports and records as required in line with company policy and legislative requirement.
6. To ensure all of the company’s policies and procedures are adhered to within the service provision.
7. To undertake “spot” checks and direct observations
8. To ensure that carer’s performance of tasks is to a suitable standard as set by Skills for Care by the use of mentoring and working alongside new care workers.
9. New members of staff who may need guidance and support will be allocated to work with Senior Carer who will act as their mentor.
10. Any Complaints must be communicated to line Manager immediately, who in turn reports to the registered Manager.
11. To ensure good practice, monitor and evaluate quality of the services provided at all times.
12. Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work requirements.
13. To ensure that staff morale is kept high and that staff are treated as individuals and with respect and in accordance with the company’s policy and training on anti – discriminatory practice.
14. To communicate to line manager any difficulties with staff support and performance.
15. Liaise as and when necessary with the line manager if unable to deal with any phone calls or problems relating from a call.
16. Make written notes of all phone calls and action taken from any calls.
17. Maintain accurate records and forward to the Administration Team to ensure database is kept up to date for correct invoicing and salary.
18. Ensure, in the event of an emergency the Service User needs are met and that the line manager is made aware of any changes or problems.
19. Changes to a service user’s condition must be reported to the line manager as soon as possible, and a full written account made in the notes.
20. Ensuring that MAR charts have been updated at the start of each month or when a change is identified with individual client.
Your list of duties should be seen as a guideline and not a comprehensive list. It is intended for your duties to be re looked on a regular basis. The Senior carer shall also carry out other tasks, deemed necessary to assist with the smooth running of Beaumont healthcare and to maintain the high standard of service to the Service Users.

Previous experience in a Care based environment preferably at a senior level
A good working knowledge of care sector policies and procedures
NVQ/QCF level 3 in Health & social care or equivalent.
A willingness to undertake further training courses as they become available
Excellent standard of written / spoken English
Ability to complete records, compile reports and additional paperwork.
Competent I.T.skills
