Job description
Temporary Contract until 19 September 2024 | 37 hours per week | £27,344 to £29,439 per annum (Grade G) | Norwich
We have an opportunity within our Applications team for a student to join us on a one year placement and work as an IT Support Technician, helping to support, develop and continually evolve our broad suite of web based business applications.
Norfolk County Council are the main local authority for Norfolk providing services countywide to Norfolk residents. We take a lead in critical policy areas, and we work in partnership with local businesses, voluntary organisations and other local authorities in order to provide the people of Norfolk with excellent services.
Digital Services is a vitally important part of our organisation, providing the technology platform that allows all our employees to do their jobs effectively, and continually innovating and adapting to the rapidly evolving technical world. We have multiple teams within Digital Services, and this role sits within Applications (specifically web applications), who are responsible for the development and continual improvement of our portfolio of web-based systems used by our employees.
This role will give you exposure to the full lifecycle of application development. Working as part of a diverse and talented team, your work will include support and bug fixing of existing applications, the development of new features and functionality, and project work around new system development and integration work. You’ll get support, training and guidance along the way, and at the end of the year your experience will stand you in good stead for your future career in technology.
To be considered for the role, we’re looking for you to be currently studying for a degree in a technology subject (Computer Science, Software Development or similar), and for you to have a strong interest in software / web development. You’ll need a good understanding of common programming languages and frameworks, and ideally an appreciation of automation, AI and cloud based systems. You’ll also need a desire to learn, a proactive approach and a general interest in technology and the benefits it can bring.
We think that this is a great opportunity for someone to gain exposure to the world of application development while working in a supportive, inclusive environment where you can see the impact of your work and truly make a difference. If you’re still reading, and you’re still interested, then we’d love to hear from you.
We want our people to be inspired and motivated to work well together, make the most of our workspaces, enjoy a healthy work-life balance, and deliver excellent services to Norfolk and its people. Flexibility is built into the way we work, with hybrid working a key feature for many roles. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.
