Job description
This is a senior level laboratory post which will include provision of advanced technical support, supervision, training and management to provide a technical service which meets Trust and national standards. The post holder will provide coaching and mentoring to Biomedical Scientists and will help with the completion of post registration qualifications.
The Pathology departments at North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) and South Tees Hospitals (STH) are working collaboratively to develop a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology with services being delivered on all hospital sites. The successful candidate will be based at the University Hospital North Tees but will be required to work between our hospital sites in support of the development of the collaborative work.
The post holder is expected to participate, as appropriate, in regional and national groups to develop guidelines and support development of Pathology provision across the wider NHS.
To maintain an up to date knowledge base of methods in use within Histology and be aware of scientific and technological advances within the department
- To participate in the provision of the Her -2 testing service and ensure the service is delivered effectively
- To participate in specimen dissection and examination as appropriate to the grade of Senior BMS
- To provide leadership in a team environment and support all staff
- To be responsible for robust rota and annual leave management to ensure an appropriate number and skill mix of staff within the department at all times.

Maintain up to date knowledge in area of expertise to inform on service improvements, equipment requirements and business planning.
- Monitor maintenance procedures and perform advanced troubleshooting on highly complex equipment requiring high levels of concentration
- Plan and prioritise workflows so that timely and accurate results are produced in order to achieve a high standard of diagnostic work which will contribute to optimal patient care
- To critically evaluate new equipment and procedures and report findings to the Operational /Lead BMS and Consultant(s)
