Job Description
We're looking for a Senior Automation Test Engineer/SDET to work within our Payments team based in Edinburgh. This role offers excellent training and career progression. This role could be suitable if you're currently ‘hands on’, working as a Software Developer in Test, SDET, Software Engineer in Test, Automation Engineer or similar.
Hybrid working - 2 days a week in our Edinburgh office.

Where will this role sit?
Payments Services (PSP), where our mission is to provide compliant and efficient payments capabilities for the Group and drive innovation to enable customers to move money confidently, quickly and securely. The Payments Services Platform sits within Business & Commercial Banking and plays a critical role in providing services across the whole Group.
What will I do?
As a Senior Automation Test Engineer, you'll help define and implement the testing strategy across our product range. Working in agile delivery squads, you'll take the lead on testing features and defining innovative approaches to testing, as well as providing technical mentoring and oversight to other Engineers in the team. Your focus will be on contributing to the development of automated Functional Integration tests and end-to-end tests that includes leveraging shift-left methods.
You'll be comfortable working across applications with an eagerness to learn new technologies as required. If you're a tester who wants to be challenged with further aspirations of utilising the capabilities and benefits of automation, whilst still having the freedom to be creative, then this is a great opportunity for you. The right candidate for this position will be motivated by this challenge and will help to develop our future ways of working as part of a technical team geared towards improving the automation capability within our Payments platform and improving our overall automation coverage. You should also have a strong understanding of behaviour-driven development (BDD).
You’ll have had experience working with the following: Java, Javascript, and/or Python, Selenium Webdriver and/or Cucumber, creating and maintaining test automation frameworks, API Automation, CI/CD tooling and build pipeline (Jenkins) .
You'll be able to:
  • Create and maintains automated test cases, executes test suites, reviews and diagnoses reported bugs, and ensures overall system quality prior to a customer release
  • Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot automated suites of tests through continuous integration for valuable feedback
  • Work with the engineering teams to derive testing requirements throughout the development cycle
  • Reproduce, debug, and isolate problems and verify fixes
  • Work closely with software developers to create software artefacts including test plans, test cases, test procedures and test reports
  • Work with cross functional areas with internal partner engineering teams in a focused agile environment
  • Estimate own testing tasks and work efficiently with minimum supervision while showing excellent team attitude
  • Represent team leadership and provides technical guidance and training to junior testers and developers inside the team and/or across teams
  • Develop and maintain automated test environments using custom framework, and longer-term open-source tools
What we’ll need from you:
  • Strong Java, Javascript and/or Python development skills
  • God knowledge of Selenium, Cucumber and/or Webdriver
  • Experience of building test infrastructure with software engineering best practices and creating / maintaining test automation frameworks, API Automation, CI/CD tooling and build pipeline (Jenkins GitHub or similar)
