Senior Associate – CMBO (Loan & Investment Banking Origination)

Team Summary

Corporate Banking Origination UK (“CMBO”) is responsible for the origination of Loan & Investment Banking business across the Commercial Bank’s client base in the UK.

The product-agnostic team originates opportunities across all sectors via consistent and intense client coverage. Using our market-leading loan proposition and deep knowledge and understanding of the Investment Banking product suite, we proactively provide clients with strategic content to support their growth ambitions and help optimise their capital structure.

CMBO collaborates closely and regularly with Coverage and Senior Management as well as Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Leveraged & Acquisition Finance, M&A Advisory and Syndicate.

The Senior Associate position is part of the primary support for the Directors as the market face of the team. You will directly support our deep-seated client relationships to bring our Loan and Investment Banking proposition to our corporate client base.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Originating the full suite of Investment Banking transactions (including Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Leveraged & Acquisition Financing, M&A Advisory and syndicated transactions) across the UK corporate client base
  • Originating, structuring, pricing and executing Loan transactions for Large Corporate, ISB, Real Estate Finance and Mid-Market Enterprises across the UK client base, from ordinary course refinances to large-scale M&A
  • Driving proactive collaboration with GB (Investment Banking) product partners, international colleagues, and other Global Businesses to deliver maximum value of HSBC products and services to our clients and deepening existing relationships
  • Building the team’s franchise value/reputation with internal and external stakeholders through supporting team and bank-wide initiatives and projects
  • Maintaining trusted relationships with the Coverage teams and Senior Management to drive origination opportunities and client engagement
  • Ensuring CMBO operates in accordance with the HSBC’s internal lending and other guidelines, controls and procedures and also in line with any external regulatory requirements
Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A genuine interest in the financial markets
  • Credit and lending experience is essential
  • Strong knowledge of Loan and Investment Banking products, including cash-flow lending (corporate or leveraged), M&A, bridges and post-IPO financing
  • Experience working in relevant environments/markets, e.g. Syndicated Loans Market, Debt/Structured Finance, Investment Banking teams
  • Strong financial analysis and financial modelling skills
  • A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own/others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes
  • Willingness to undertake the training/study required in this role, i.e. if not currently a Certified Person, the selected candidate must achieve Certified Person Competency within two years of joining the team
  • Willingness to undertake internal and/or external training/study to for personal and professional development and to bolster the skill set that will be developed while in this role, including documentation training, corporate valuations and credit rating analysis
