ABOUT THE JOB

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior role within a new SEND casework team. As the Senior Case Officer leading a team of up to three SEND Case Officers, you will be key in leading the delivery of provision to the benefit of our children, young people and their families. Our children need case officers who are strong, competent and experienced in undertaking and contributing to assessments – and we expect Senior Case Officers to be paragons of good practice who lead by example.

SEND Senior Case Officers will play an important role in effectively managing casework, maximising opportunities for children and young people with SEND and ensuring that they reach their full potential. We’re making positive changes to the way we work, and Senior Case Officers will make a significant contribution towards the Council’s vision of enabling every resident under 25 to be safe, happy and cared for, with positive activities to secure their long-term wellbeing.

Our case work team is part of a broader multi-agency SEND service that comprises of travel, education psychology, tribunals and special educational support services, which includes a speech and language team. The service shares a commitment to deliver positive and successful outcomes for children with SEND with colleagues across Children’s Services in areas such as Health and Social Care.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for candidates with an in-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice . You will have substantial relevant experience of working within an education, health or care setting, or you might be from a related profession. As a Senior Case Officer, you will ideally have direct experience of managing full and complex caseloads of children and young people with complex and additional needs.

You can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to negotiate, persuade, build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. Your empathetic approach and high level of emotional intelligence mean you will thrive leading a team in this exciting, family facing role. You will find it extremely rewarding supporting colleagues and improving practice – and take pride in your work, your team, and never lose focus of the reason we’re here – to benefit our children and young people with SEND.

You will be ready to work independently to prioritise your workload at pace. You will be well organised and adept at using IT such as Microsoft office programmes including Teams and case management systems.
