About the Role:

We are looking to for a Personal Care Assistants/Support Workers to provide support to a lovely lady who is sadly suffering from the later stages of Alzheimers. She is also registered blind but does have some sight in one of her eyes.

Hourly Rate – As you are self-employed, please provide rates on your application

Days to be discussed

Various shifts available between 8am-8pm

8pm-8am overnight (occasional requirement only)

Job Description & Person Specification

Self employed personal care and support workers required, various shifts/hours available

Location: Bournemouth (ideally local to BH4)

Job purpose:

To assist with a variety of tasks which will assist my mother who needs care and support to complete daily activities.

This role may on rare occasions involves overnight support.

About the individual:

My mother is a lovely lady who is sadly suffering from the later stages of Alzheimers. She isn’t bed bound yet and we would like to keep her mobile for as long as possible. She is also registered blind but has got some sight in one of her eyes.

She loves stroking dogs and the sound of children laughing and birds tweeting. She likes playing word games and games shows on the tv. She loves music and used to be a wonderful singer. She can still hold a note or two, she just can’t remember many of the words.

She is a very happy and positive and chatty lady. But due to the above issues has high levels of anxiety and really can’t be left on her own when she is awake. Over the last 4 years we have adapted her routine according to her need but her day can be broken down as follows:

8am-1pm morning shift

1pm-3pm nap

3pm-8pm afternoon/ bedtime shift

8pm-8am overnight

Rate of pay:

As self-employed, please provide rates on your application

Hours of work:

Various shifts available between 8am-8pm

8pm-8am overnight (occasional requirement only)

Main duties

Social duties: support to:

§ keep in touch and socialise with family and friends

§ attend the local Conservative club

§ attend medical appointments.

§ do hobbies such as walking, playing basic word games and quizzes and listening to music

§ general companionship

Personal Care:

§ support with bathing or showering and teeth cleaning,

§ dressing

§ administering medication

§ changing incontinence pads

§ eating

§ performing exercises/physiotherapy

Domestic duties:

§ cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks

§ cleaning, changing linen, laundry, ironing

She has dietary requirements that will be discussed at interview.

These duties may vary from day-to-day

Qualities

Values:

§ Someone who treats Mum like they would treat their own mum. With patience.

§ Someone I can work with that can raise changes in her wellbeing so that we can work with the GP to ensure she is cared for.

§ I’d like honest, reliable, punctual, ability to build good relationships flexible, adaptable, easy going. You need to able to work alone, be positive, and have a good sense of humour.

Specific requirements:

§ Patience. My mum almost always says no to liking food but if you tell her she had it yesterday and she loved it she eats it.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential: Full driving licence, car and appropriate insurance if you wish to drive mum anywhere.

A good listener

§ Ability to provide invoices for work

§ Provide evidence of self-employment such as Liability Insurance, Terms and Conditions, tax reference number.

§ DBS Check will be required

§ Legally Able to Work in UK
