About the Role
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Security Patrol Officer. The successful candidate will be expected to hold (or achieve on appointment) and maintain a valid SIA Licence and an Appointed Person First Aid qualification. In addition, the applicant should have a good command of spoken English, computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, email and internet, a positive team member and a good level of fitness.
The postholder will be required to engage directly and proactively with individuals and groups of students to enrich the student experience by promoting the development of strong positive relationships amongst a diverse community and to promote good relations between students at Queen Mary and the local communities.
About You
The ability to use initiative, discretion and display flexibility and adaptability as well as respecting confidentiality whilst undertaking duties. To carry out security and crime prevention patrols of buildings and grounds as tasked, being diligent, alert and checking for security and health & safety problems. Monitor, and where relevant challenge, persons on campus carrying out ID checks as may be necessary of staff, students and visitors on Queen Mary property and at events. Good level of physical fitness required due to the remit of the job i.e., running, climbing stairs, cycling, etc. Good command of the English language with the ability to write clear and understandable reports. Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, email and internet. Confident, remaining calm and controlled in responding to difficult or emergency situations. Ability to work under pressure in a busy and demanding environment.
The post is full time (42 hours per week, 4 nights and 4 off shift pattern), permanent appointment. Starting salary will be £28,910 plus shift allowance £3, 818.61 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 24 shift days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time (42 hours per week), permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 1, £28,910 pa plus Shift Allowance £3,818.61 pa, inclusive of London Allowance.
