Job description
An opportunity has arisen for a Section Engineer to join the team at Galliford Try. working on the Thames Water Framework. The role is to proactively lead and effectively coordinate site engineering of the construction phase activities as part of a project team promoting health, safety environmental and construction best practice across the Galliford Try.
Working independently or managing and coordinating site engineers while working with Foremen (all grades) and labour (direct and subcontract), liaising with and co-ordinating with both site and project managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Intermediate supervisory position responsible for managing and ensuring the delivery of engineering control on site
- Supervises and mentors site engineers (where present)
- Liaises with operational staff to ensure the effective utilisation of labour and plant resource on site
- Liaises with subcontractors when assigned to, to facilitate efficient site installation
- Responsible for organizing plant and labour, when assigned
- Understands programme requirements, organizes work in accordance with programme, drives work output
- Inputs into weekly and short-term look-ahead programmes, drives and monitors progress against the programme
- Responsible for implementing safe working practices on site and for developing operatives’ safety awareness
- Contributes to risk assessments, method statements and systems of work
- Responsible for ensuring work is carried out in accordance with method statements and in line with the specification/s
- Working understanding of the appropriate Conditions of Contract
- Working understanding of subcontracts and subcontract management
- Ability to mentor and develop subordinates
- Management responsibility: development toward leading role
- H&S and Environment - Safety is the cornerstone of GT strategy.
- Quality & Document Control
Experience and Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of managing and working in a similar role
- Industry qualifications, Degree or HND/C in Civil Engineering or equivalent with a willingness to learn and develop further
- Good understanding of engineering / construction principles and practices
- Understanding of legislation and standards
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes (or similar engineering industry) preferred
- Application of CDM Health and Safety duties including understanding and managing design and technical risk
- CSCS, SMSTS, with First Aid a benefit
- Good general IT skills including software using MS Office and document management systems
- Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to concisely present information
- Problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Demonstrable ability to work with and developing to manage people
