Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic member of staff to join our existing secretarial team within the Womens Health Department.
The ideal candidate will have proven admin experience, ability to audio type and be able to provide excellent customer care. Experience of working with patient’s records and using a hospital database, such as PAS, e-Referral system and using Microsoft applications would be advantageous.
We would expect the candidate to have proven relevant experience of working in a similar role.

- To type clinical and non-clinical correspondence and reports in accordance within local targets
- To undertake a variety of office duties, such as filing, opening and distributing post, photocopying, moving and lifting of patient notes to ensure the efficient and effective support to the department
- To enter Referral to Treatment (RTT) pathway events accurately
- Ensuring all clinic outcomes have been recorded accurately, and complete or amend any that have not
- Ensuring a Patient Pathway Identifier (PPI) is correctly allocated to any event booked on PAS
- Responsible for entering further RTT codes as required: • Discharged on receipt of reports
- Treated after appointment
- Escalate to a Medical Secretary any anomalies or concerns
- To ensure Inter Provider Transfers (IPT) are completed and updated
- To ensure that Choose & Book work lists are actioned daily
- To answer telephone enquiries in an efficient manner and ensure appropriate follow through using initiative to deal with routine enquiries
There is a dedicated Theatre within the labour ward and also facilities for water births.
A 24-hour epidural service is available and a dedicated Consultant Anaesthetist is available for all morning sessions. There is a well-equipped ante-natal clinic with 3 ultrasound rooms and a Day Assessment Unit.
There is an Obstetric ward with a transitional care Baby Unit.
The midwifery team are based in the community and well established with approximately 10% of the deliveries, out of Hospital.
The Women’s Health Unit also houses the Gynaecology Clinic, which has facilities for Colposcopy and Minimal Invasive Surgery.
There is a separate fully equipped Urodynamic Unit.
We also provide a Termination Service with the Support of the Sexual Health Service. The counselling of women who request termination, outpatient clinic service and Medical Termination is provided by the Sexual Health Service and the O and G service provide the surgical termination element. There is an Early Pregnancy Service and separate Fertility Clinics.
The Obstetric and Gynaecology Directorate has dedicated beds on the surgical ward- Forrest.
This Ward accommodates major in-patient surgery, whilst there is an independent unit for Day Surgery.
The ward also has a treatment room which is used also as an assessment area and a place where ward attenders are seen.
