Job description
Our software development team is the engine room of our business, providing bespoke systems that give us our competitive advantage in a dynamic and fast paced marketplace. You will work in a team that may develop solutions across all our current technology platforms including our bespoke back-office system, online insurance trading platform and a new dynamic document management system.
The Scrum Master is a challenging role as it is the guardian of the Scrum team, the person who resolves impediments for the team and champions the Scrum process. The facilitator of Scrum events (daily scrum, sprint planning, reviews, etc.), the mediator who resolves conflicts and coaches/mentors the organisation in agile practices and the key driver of continuous improvement for their team.
About the role
- Facilitating events for the team including preparation, moderation and postprocessing
- Ensuring the team dynamics are in a healthy place through coaching, conflict mediation, fostering self-organisation and the team game mentality etc.
- Relentlessly driving continuous improvement in the team through retrospectives, learning, giving feedback, challenging the team, suggesting new metrics, etc. You should be spotting opportunities and helping others spot opportunities as well.
- Keeping the team focused on what’s important, removing impediments. Applying and helping others apply lean thinking daily.
- Being an active member of the Agile community, staying in touch with stakeholders and sharing knowledge on Agile concepts.
About you
- Strong knowledge of Scrum with appreciation of other agile frameworks such as Lean, Kanban, XP, etc.
- Good knowledge of the software development life cycle and procedures, so that you can understand your team’s needs.
- Continuously learning about Agile techniques like: Story mapping, Continuous Integration, BDD, TDD, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games, etc.
- Experience with stakeholder management, product thinking and empathy-building.
- Experience in playing the Scrum Master role for at least three (3) years.
