ABOUT RXCELERATE
The RxCelerate group is an out-sourced drug development platform specialising in the design and delivery of complete drug discovery and development programs and project management for our clients spanning from an idea up to and including Phase II clinical studies.
RxCelerate are expanding our capabilities to include a drosophila laboratory and currently has an exciting opportunity for an experienced scientist proficient in handling drosophila to join our team. Working collaboratively within our Biology department, you will be responsible for setting up and running the drosophila laboratory at RxCelerate to support one of our drug discovery programmes. Applications are welcomed from experienced graduates with a biology background, an interest in drug discovery and experience with working with drosophila.
THE ROLE
The successful candidate would have experience in working with drosophila, ideally with experience in drosophila genetics and fly pushing, including maintaining fly stocks and crossing fly lines. They must be a careful and methodical worker with keen attention to detail. They should also be self-motivated and able to organise and perform experiments effectively, accurately and to a high standard. Excellent and accurate record keeping with a competent level of computer literacy are essential. They will have strong communication skills and be an exceptional team-worker. The ability to prioritise work within a fast paced, dynamic and demanding scientific environment to meet challenging deadlines is essential. This full-time role is predominantly lab based.
Main Responsibilities
· Setup and maintenance of a drosophila laboratory.
· Maintenance of drosophila stocks.
· Execution of experiments to determine effects of small molecules on drosophila embryogenesis/development.
· Maintenance of accurate experimental records.
· Delivery of high-quality data to tight deadlines.
Skills/Requirements
Essential
· BSc/MSc in a biology related subject OR lower level of qualification AND relevant experience.
· Relevant laboratory experience in drosophila genetics and fly pushing, including maintaining fly stocks and crossing fly lines.
· Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
· Ability to work both independently and in a team.
· Proactive approach to learning and “can do” attitude.
· Willingness to learn and the ability to quickly grasp new concepts and techniques.
· Proven experience in data analysis.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
· Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable
· Experience in the execution of experiments to determine effects of small molecules on drosophila embryogenesis/development.
· Working knowledge of a broad range of functional cell-based assays, immunoassays and biochemical techniques.
