Full Time London, England 28000 - 30500 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

The Science Communications Officer is part of a team promoting the life-changing impact of BHF’s work through the media and on the BHF’s website.
This vital role links BHF-funded researchers and the public. You’ll use the media and BHF’s own external communication channels to tell the story of how our research is saving and improving the lives of heart patients. Working closely with BHF-funded researchers and journalists, you’ll announce the award of new funding and promote research discoveries through the media.
You’ll proactively seek out research stories and bring the science to life in ways that are relevant to the public and patients.

The role also plays an important part in the BHF’s busy press office to ensure people with heart and circulatory diseases receive accurate information through the media.

Working arrangements

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

About you

Thriving in a fast-paced environment, you will be talented at translating medical research into great stories and bringing these to life using BHF researchers and case studies.

With previous experience writing and developing online content, including news stories and blogs, you’ll be able to write and issue press releases to national and regional journalists. You’ll have knowledge of UK media and the changing media landscape. You’ll also coordinate media interviews and write reactive statements to breaking news stories.

With excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, you’ll build strong working relationships with key health and science journalists, as well as with BHF-funded researchers.

This varied role would suit an enthusiastic media professional with press office experience. You will also need to demonstrate an ability to write fluently and persuasively for a range of audiences.

With a natural flair for communicating complex science in a compelling and accurate way, you will be able to juggle tasks and work under pressure to deliver a first-class service.
