For the very first time, the Department of Tropical Disease Biology is recruiting a Science Communications Officer who will take charge of the communications and engagement activities for the Department and the department led Scientific Centres within the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Playing a pivotal role in developing and delivering communication strategies and measuring and monitoring the impact of campaigns; you will be the key advisor to stakeholders within the Department and its Centres.
Responsible for creating regular and engaging content and managing social media for the Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease, Centre for Snakebite Research & Interventions as well as the Centre for Drugs and Diagnostics, you will assist the Centres to increase their visibility and outreach in their respective areas of specialisation. Creating a targeted plan to advance the Centre profiles, you will be developing and maintaining regional, national and international relationships with partner organisations, alumni, media contacts etc. to further engagement and business within the wider networks. Based within the Department of Tropical Disease Biology, you will be working closely with our Communications and External Relations Department.
The Candidate:
- Substantial experience of devising and implementing imaginative media strategies and campaigns in a complex research environment.
- Significant experience of delivering an effective proactive and reactive media and public relations service, including organising press conferences, photo calls and briefings for journalists with scientific research-based content.
- Thorough understanding and practical experience of social media and other channels to build reputations and measure impact.
- Ability to create high-impact and high-quality written copy for a range of audiences with an impeccable eye for detail and ability to proofread to the highest standards.
- Able to react appropriately to challenging media events or stories and to think laterally regarding the management of events or emerging stories.
