Science Communication Lead Bristol, England
Job description
Are you passionate about science and excited about start-ups? We are looking for someone with a fascination in science, to innovate, translate and manage the marketing and communications at Science Creates. Understanding our community, what motivates our members and how to support them is a key focus for our business as we grow and support our ecosystem of young deep tech companies. For that reason, rather than years of marketing experience, we are looking for someone with a scientific background and a deep interest in start-ups, who is driven to help make a positive change in the world, with the experience required to understand what we do.
At Science Creates, we are dedicated to driving innovation in the scientific community and maximising the chances of success for our member companies on their journey from scientific research to commercial success. We are seeking a talented individual who can bridge the gap between science and marketing, leveraging their passion for both to effectively communicate what we do and champion both Science Creates’ and our member companies' successes.
The opportunity
As Science Communication Lead you will manage the marketing efforts across the company. Some of the responsibilities are listed below:
- Strengthen awareness of the whole Science Creates ecosystem, ensuring we have a growing audience and a strong community of deep tech founders and entrepreneurs
- Stay up-to-date with scientific advancements, emerging technologies, and industry trends relevant to our company
- Build the Science Creates brand locally, nationally and globally
- Create and maintain the brand assets such as the website and other marketing materials
- Commission new assets such as editorial and film content
- Work with our Marketing Assistant and freelance resource, including designers and content writers, when required
- Manage our digital systems e.g. our members portal and website
What we need you to bring to the role:
- A scientific background, degree or PhD, so conversations can happen with our many stakeholders and content can be created around a range of scientific topics
- Confident and effective communication skills - happy to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders (both scientific and non-scientific)
- Organisational skills including efficient planning plus a keen eye for detail, able to maintain brand value and quality
- A willingness to learn, initiative and a can-do attitude (with the right passions, attitude and scientific background, we are very happy for this to be a ‘learn on the job’ role)
- Some experience working with relevant marketing skills and media platforms e.g. building, growing and supporting communities online
- Relevant IT skills and experience, able to maintain and create digital products such as websites, digital community platforms and graphics plus keen to use AI such as Chat GPT to aid in efficient content creation
- The ability to work collaboratively, and build strong working relationships with other departments, supporting the commercial efforts across the company
- Familiarity with the principles of user experience, user testing, feedback-led product development and design thinking.
