Job description
KING EDWARD VI SCHOOL, SOUTHAMPTON
STROUD SCHOOL, ROMSEY
School Chaplain
Required for September 2023
The role of School Chaplain is a central role at Stroud and King Edward’s affirming the Christian tradition and ethos upon which William Capon, Rector of St Mary’s Church, founded the school in 1553. Whilst maintaining the school’s Christian traditions you will be responsible for nurturing and supporting the spiritual and pastoral life of our multi-faith community across both primary and secondary sections of King Edward’s School. You will also have the unique opportunity to develop the spiritual life of the school in a newly built Chapel opening in September 2023. You will be visible and approachable around the school providing support and counsel to the whole school community. You will be responsible for organising and leading regular Christian acts of worship, which include Holy Communion, Carol Services, Thanksgiving and Remembrance services. You will also act as the School leader in supporting members of the community from other faiths and none in nurturing their spiritual lives, including the celebration of key religious festivals from different faiths.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about engaging and enthusing our pupils on their spiritual and personal development journeys. This appointment comes at an exciting time in the life of the School, as it coincides with the opening of a new Chapel and multi-faith space at King Edward’s, the development of which will be entrusted to the post holder. You will be articulate and have the highest professional standards of conduct. Preferably, you will be a priest ordained in the Christian faith or have other experience that suits you to a chaplaincy role in a school with firm Christian traditions. In addition, experience of working in a teaching role in a school environment would be preferred. All subject areas will be considered.
King Edward’s has its own generous salary scale as well as a range of benefits including private medical insurance and Teachers Pension Scheme. Salary will be dependent on teaching experience.
