Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Sample Logistics Officer to come and join our friendly team in the Environment Agency’s Monitoring Laboratory based in Leeds.
Your duties will include: -
You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
Your duties will include: -
- Supervising a small team
- Supervise and organising tasks but also being hands on
- Receiving deliveries of samples and goods coming into the laboratory
- Registration of samples using the laboratory computer system
- Preparation of samples conforming to laboratory standards and procedures
- Ensuring completion of daily quality checks of equipment for the team
- Management and storage of samples including sample logistics and disposal

The team
You’ll be working within a small team alongside approximately 60 analytical staff and 12 customer services colleagues. We provide analytical services to the Environment Agency and external customers which includes the analysis of sediments, soils, biota, and waters from across England and around the coastline, as well as providing a bespoke Forensic Waste Service. Experience/skills required
We are looking for someone with experience in logistics, planning and supervising.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:

- Good IT skills – (training will be given on software required for the role)
- Self-motivated with a close attention to detail and an ability to follow procedures to achieve results
- Excellent communication skills
- A team player who enjoys helping and supporting others
- Maintain a positive relationship with internal and external customers
- Organisation and prioritisation skills are essential
- Ability to problem-solve, influence, and make considered and efficient decisions.
- Strong sense of initiative and a positive proactive nature
- Ability to supervise and take responsibility for the sample logistics team
