About Us
Harlem Grown’s mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.
Harlem Grown operates 13 urban agricultural sites featuring 5 soil-based urban farms, 4 school gardens, 3 hydroponic greenhouses, and a mushroom chamber. All of our sites are located between 122 and 152 Streets in Central Harlem, Manhattan.
Since 2021, our programming has served over 10,000 youth in Harlem, we've produced and distributed over 100,000 servings of food, and diverted over 50,000 pounds of food scraps into local compost operations.
Our Programs
Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability through the lens of racial justice, food justice, social justice, and equity. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships, educational farm tours, a summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, monthly community events, an afterschool program, and our Mobile Teaching Kitchen. Our community development programs open to all ages include wellness workshops, special events, food scrap collection for composting, and fresh produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents.
Marcus Garvey Park Culture, Creativity, & Care Initiative and Your Role:
This project, which you will support, is bringing various arts and cultural programming to Marcus Garvey Park aligned to the Mellon Foundation’s Humanities in Place initiative. Harlem Grown wis working collaboratively with local leadership and community stakeholders to promote and amplify multiple programs, and installations in Marcus Garvey Park focused on fostering creativity and care in an essential public space at the heart of New York’s Harlem community. Marcus Garvey park has provided space for culture, activism, and engagement during periods of social, political, and environmental transformation resonant in Harlem and beyond. Your role is critical to the logistical success of the project. On the off-season, you will help write, advertise and manage our request for proposal (RFP) process to build partnerships with the various organizations, artists, and other professionals who will bring the breadth of programming needed for two successful seasons of programming in the park. During the summer, you will provide logistical support and accountability to our partners to ensure the success of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Director of Partnerships to manage the RFP process and MOUs
- Advertise the RFP both broadly and to specific pre-identified potential partners
- Prepare the programming schedule and adjust as changes arise
- Collect and share program and partner details, supporting successful advertising campaigns.
- Continuously engage with applicants and confirmed partners to ensure that they are prepared and supported to deliver quality programs
- Liaise between Harlem Grown, programming partners, and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Director of Partnerships and Program Evaluator to give clear expectations around data collection and reporting to partners
- Serve as liaison between partners to increase cooperation and prevent logistical conflicts
- Maintain positive relationships with all project stakeholders and Harlem Grown staff
- Serve as a role model for youth and reinforce Harlem Grown’s values
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- Proven ability to manage vendors and partnerships
- Experience working in communities of color
- Problem solving, critical thinking, and project management skills
- Past experience managing an RFP process
- Experience writing contracts and MOUs
- Ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and lead them towards a common goal.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the rich cultural history of Central Harlem
