Scope
We are looking to recruit Manufacturing Operators to work within our cleanroom based in Plymouth, reporting to the Manufacturing Shift Supervisor.
Plessey is an embedded technologies developer at the forefront of microLED technology for augmented reality (AR) display applications. Drawing on over a decade of semiconductor and optoelectronics expertise, we have developed a unique and proprietary GaN-on-Silicon platform to manufacture innovative microLED displays.
At our world-class manufacturing and innovation centre in Plymouth, we operate leading-edge wafer processing facilities to undertake the design, test and assembly of products and a comprehensive suite of photonic characterisation and applications laboratories.
We are in an exciting phase of our development journey and are now closely partnering with Meta, who are developing new technologies to help connect and bring people together. Our mission is to help bring their vision of the next lightweight and stylish AR glasses to life.

The successful candidates will work a shift pattern of 2 Days (7am – 7pm), 2 Nights (7pm – 7am), 4 off (R13 Rotating shift). We offer a salary of £23,552 (plus 38% shift premium, totalling £32,502) and an excellent benefits package which includes Private Health Insurance, Group Personal Pension Scheme, subsidised on site canteen, fully equipped gym, Cycle to work scheme, location adjacent to Dartmoor National Park and 25 days holiday including bank holiday entitlement.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for the efficient and accurate operation of a restricted range of equipment used within manufacturing
- To adhere to necessary Health & Safety regulations
- To exercise good manufacturing practices and disciplines
- To follow documented procedures from printed matter and computer sources
- To communicate effectively on the status of equipment and materials
- To work in a clean room environment and adhere to clean room disciplines at all times
- Maintain quality and order for product at all times
Key Skills/ Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- 5 GCSE’s grade C or above, including English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Good IT Skills
- Ability to learn new skills quickly
- High level of accuracy, quality of work and attention to detail
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and procedures accurately.
- Good communication skills
- Team player and able to demonstrate flexibility towards team goals.
- Ability to undertake shift work (preferably with previous experience)
- Willing to work in a clean room environment and wear protective clothing and masks.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment
- Previous experience in Semiconductor manufacturing
- ONC or HNC in Electronics/ Electronics Engineering
