Job description

DeSilva Gates Construction, Northern California’s established heavy civil engineering contractor, is seeking a Safety Trainer to join our Safety Department in the Bay Area. As a Safety Trainer, you will be the lead training instructor for onboard training, field training and maintenance training, in addition to maintaining all training records. The ideal candidate would have both heavy civil field experience and a safety training/instruction background to develop and lead effective training courses.

Responsibilities:

The Safety Trainer reports to the Director of Corporate Safety. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Train employees and managers on safety program topics in a combination of classroom instruction and field instruction. Topics include onboard training, OSHA, confined space, trenching/excavation, fall protection, forklift operation, MSHA and more.
  • Teach, coach and mentor the company’s Safety Culture through Production Risk Management (PRM).
  • Create and update company training materials and courses to align with current standards.
  • Maintain training records in partnership with Operations Department.
  • Attend daily safety meetings- provide safety training information and act as a safety resource.
  • Use all resources (local, state, fed) to evaluate risk management effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Corporate Safety.

Qualifications:

Preferred

  • Experience leading safety trainings, workshops or courses related to civil construction.
  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA 500 certification plus extensive OSHA and CalOSHA knowledge and experience.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate with internal and external personnel of all levels.
  • Bilingual
  • CHST/CSP/CIH certification
  • Exposure to MSHA
