We are looking for a Safer Custody Officer to help develop our understanding, oversight, scrutiny and policy development related to police custody. The Safer Custody Officer will manage the delivery of the Independent Custody Visitor Scheme. The scheme ensures the welfare of detainees and supports he statutory oversight and scrutiny function of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The post-holder will be responsible for developing policies and procedures to ensure the scheme runs efficiently and effectively. Managing a large number of volunteers, you will need to have strong communication skills with the ability to develop relationships at all levels. You will also need energy and enthusiasm to maintain volunteer motivation and commitment.
You will be responsible for all aspects of the scheme including; recruitment, training, evaluation, coordinating visits, processing expenses and generating reports and briefings for the PCC. You will have the ability to keep robust records and liaise regionally to share best practice and identify future opportunities for the scheme. You will have a keen eye for detail and be able to keep up to date with legislative and policy developments in relation to the police custody and the scheme.
