Risk Intern - 6 months

At a glance

The Risk Intern is positioned in the UK Risk Department and reports to the Entity Chief Risk Officer. The duration of the contract will be approximately 6 months.

The UK Risk Department provides, in an integrated way, oversight of credit, market, operational, liquidity, reputational, regulatory and other risks in the CRO’s geographical area of control, as outlined in the allocation of roles and responsibilities in the Entities Risk Charter (ERC). The objective of the department is to advise on optimising the risk profile and managing all uncontrolled risks for the local organisation through:

  • providing an integrated overview across the risk taxonomy;
  • providing an integrated management framework of risk across businesses within ABN AMRO Bank / Asset Based Finance UK;
  • monitoring and regular reporting of risks in a clear and concise manner;
  • effecting checks to ensure adoption of policies, plans, rules and procedures to decrease the risk of unexpected losses or damage to the bank’s financial position and reputation.


Your job

The function of the Risk Intern is to assist in ensuring that the UK Risk Department meets its objectives as detailed above. The Risk Intern will assist with the following core functions of the UK Risk Management function:

  • Setting standards and best practices, by monitoring policy implementation and adherence, continuous evaluation, integration, and improvements to risk frameworks, systems and processes.
  • Monitoring and assisting with the day-to-day management of risk processes, by assisting with the implementation and independently assessing the performance of risk control processes, identifying weaknesses, and appropriately reporting and escalating failures.
  • Monitoring and assisting with managing risk exposure, by participating in regular risk dialogues with other local units, assisting in the preparation of risk dashboards and reports that are discussed and approved in the local risk committee, and reviewing and approving the local risk performance against risk appetite. Oversee, advise and challenge the assessment of non-financial risks performed by the 1st line of defence.
  • Representation, networking, and knowledge transfer regarding the management of non-financial risks by frequent, transparent and honest communication and training across the three lines of defence, within the local business units and in collaboration with Amsterdam.
  • Assist in the execution of a yearly UK Risk departmental project plan, enhancing processes as required.

Your profile

  • A demonstrable interest in pursuing a career in Finance, Banking and/or Risk Management;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite;
  • A self-starter, team-oriented, and committed approach.
