Petrofac is looking to recruit a Rig Electrician to join our team on the Irish Sea Pioneer


JOB TITLE: RIG ELECTRICIAN


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for keeping the Chief Engineer informed as to the operational status of all electrical equipment.
  • Duty Engineer on call for engine room alarms, normally one night out of three.
  • Responsible for watch-keeping during jacking operations as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Assist with maintenance as required by the Chief Engineer.
  • Responsible for safe and efficient functioning of the on board electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Undertake planned and unplanned repair and maintenance, as directed by the Chief Engineer, on hazardous areas, power generation, telecommunications, navigation and electrical equipment.
  • Install electrical and electronic equipment to vendor's and Petrofac standard procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining jacking system, to be fully functional and fit for purpose, as per ABS class requirements and to keep watch as per marine jacking stations, or as directed by the Chief Engineer during jacking operations.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure full compliance with Petrofac and Client HSE Management Standards, HSE policies and practices and applicable regulations.
  • Responsible for becoming familiar with the ISP manuals, in particular, the ISP Safety Case, Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan and the Operations and Procedures Manual.
  • Maintain Petrofac and Client reputation and support external communication policies.
  • Achieve HSE performance against agreed KPIs and reporting as appropriate.
  • Lead/attend Hazops/Hazids/toolbox talks as and when required.
  • Ensure a safe system of work for all activities through control of the Permit To Work system, and by liaison with other departments.
  • Understand and comply with the Petrofac Permit to Work system and safe working practices including raising and issuing of permits to work and preparation of self-trade work plans when required.
  • Ensure that all allocated equipment available for operational use complies with the Petrofac and Client “fit for purpose” criteria.
  • Understand the Petrofac and Client Emergency Response Procedures and their application.
  • Perform in an Emergency Response role as defined in the Emergency Response Procedures Manual and installation Station Bill.
  • Maintain the highest standards of HSEC and ensure all work is safely controlled.
  • Participate actively in incident reporting, incident investigation, good housekeeping, control and minimization of waste.
  • Ensure that any defects in working practices, machinery, tools, equipment, protective measures and protective clothing are immediately brought to the attention of management so that steps can be instigated to remedy the defect or take the equipment out of service until repaired or made safe.
  • Ensure the risk assessment process is understood and complied with at all times.
  • Ensure audit and inspection program is completed and actions arising are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Comply with client procedures and checklists to ensure all tasks are completed with full regard to Safety Health and Environment.
  • Contribute to the Installation’s safety effectiveness through recommending improvements in procedures and work practices, from personal observation or by making recommendations arising from safety representatives, individuals, group safety meetings or actions from accident/incident or hazard fault work report.
  • Report all SHEQC incidents to Line manager/Client as soon as possible.
  • Identify areas of waste minimization and reduce effects to the environment.
  • Responsible for complying with and ensuring adequate safe systems of work and electrical isolations are adopted for all activities under his direction, in accordance with company procedures and policies, including permit to work and risk assessment procedures.
  • Under permit to work, is an isolating authority and, as such, deemed competent to carry out isolations and complete the isolation certificate for his discipline and/or area.
  • Adopt safe working practices at all times with regards to lifting operations and in accordance with statutory and company operating procedures.
  • Ensure all lifting and associated equipment, where necessary, has valid certification prior to commencing lifting operations.

Emergency Duties:

  • In an emergency, report to the bridge as Events Board Scribe, carry out electrical isolations and assist the Emergency Command Team (ECT) as required.
  • In the event of an emergency, carry out such duties as identified in the emergency response procedure.
  • Responsible for emergency team training and preparedness. Assists with the initial response to Asset emergencies.

Work Management:

  • Responsible jointly, with the Chief Engineer, for the maintenance of the fire and gas monitoring panel and emergency shut down panel.
  • Responsible for making regular tours of duty of all electrical equipment on board.
  • Responsible for keeping records and logs of all work undertaken, including hand-over notes.
  • Responsible for ordering, receipt and safe storage of electrical spare gear.
  • Compile operational hand-over notes for relief at the end of each tour of duty and copy to be sent to office.
  • Responsible for highlighting to the OIM and/or master any omissions, errors and potential improvements with regards to systems and processes in which he / she is involved.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with operational procedures
  • Show commitment to the team ethic by training others as directed by line supervisor or client.
  • Demonstrate willingness to gain additional skills such as participating and proving competency in multi-tasking.
  • Foster good relationships and team working ethic with other shift teams to achieve the terminal and asset objectives.
  • Flexibility to cover temporary projects, e.g. shut-down and other roles as defined by client.
  • Compile a personal portfolio (CPP) to demonstrate competency to undertake assigned duties, activities and tasks. The portfolio shall be maintained current and valid, retained at the terminal and made available to assessors, company auditors and regulatory authorities.
  • Encourage and promote effective team work to maximize individual and team performance.
  • Identify areas of improvement and promote a continuous improvement culture.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • ONC / HNC in electrical / electronic engineering.
  • Experience in offshore industry as electrician which includes experience on jack-up rigs.
