Job Title: RETAIL ASSISTANT – Part Time
Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week – School Shop opening hours are: Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. Post holder will be required to work 2 x half days and every Friday (less 30 minutes unpaid lunch break), depending on the rota.
Some flexibility in hours/days may be required on occasion to cover busy periods, staff holiday or absences across all School Retail Outlets. Occasional weekends and evening work will be required.
Reporting To: Retail Manager
Location: Sherborne School Shop
Salary: You will be paid £9,919.00 per annum, which equates to £10.90 per hour.
Holiday: You will be entitled to 5 weeks paid holiday per year, plus Bank Holidays.
Main Purpose:
We are looking for a dynamic individual to work as a part time Retail Assistant. The successful post holder will be able to provide first class customer service and support within the School Shop, within a strong team.
Core Duties:
The following is necessarily a general description of duties and not all that you may be required to do:
· The retail assistant will work principally in the School Shop, however, will have some responsibilities that support School’s other retail outlets
· Participating in the day-to-day running of the Shop.
· Outfitting of pupils (including international pupils), which involves providing advice on sizing, measuring and fitting of uniform.
· Sale of uniform, sports equipment, stationery and Shop merchandise.
· Dealing with customers’ enquiries/requests.
· Using the computerised till for sales (cash, cheques and debit cards), as well as computer input for recording sales.
· Following cashing up procedures.
· Assisting the Manager with ordering, sorting and display of stock items.
· Assist in changing displays of shop stock.
· Keeping the shop and displays clean and tidy at all times.
· Receiving deliveries, unpacking and re-shelving or storing stock.
· Assisting with regular stock checks and annual stock takes.
· Ensure any issues concerning customer care are reported to the Retail Manager.
· Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out and report any concerns to the Shop Manager.
· Any other reasonable requests from the Shop Manager.
· The post holder must comply with School Policies and Procedures
· Have an awareness of and display commitment to the relevant legislation and guidance in working practices in relation to the safeguarding of children and young people.
· Attend training sessions arranged by the School; training will take place on a regular basis.
Skills, Experience & Personal attributes required:
· Previous retail experience desirable, preferably in a similar environment.
· Computer literacy to support Retail Manager with admin duties across all retail outlets
· Ability to work unsupervised and, at times, in a busy environment.
· Ability to communicate in a professional and articulate manner with a wide variety of customers is essential (e.g. pupils (including international), parents, prospective parents, staff, etc).
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· The ability to co-operate easily with others.
· The ability to remain calm under pressure.
· Flexibility within the demands of the post.
· Energy, enthusiasm and commitment.
