Job description
The Cavern coffee shop functions as a regular coffee shop but with a difference! It offers work experience training for vulnerable and disadvantaged people including those with complex needs. It is also a community venue and safe place for young people, those with complex mental health needs and adults with learning difficulties who need support. We support people in a person centred, and trauma informed way.
The Cavern is open 10am-11pm 6 days a week and 12pm-11pm on a Sunday so shift work will be required.
The ideal candidate for this position is a passionate, people focused individual. They would be confident working in a coffee shop environment and managing the individual tasks involved running a shift. More importantly than that they will have a passion for seeing people become the best they can be. Passionate about being a part of someone’s journey to better their lives, learning new skills and building healthier relationships. They will have an appreciation for the values of Treasure Seekers as an organisation and actively want to support the vision through their work.
- All applicants will be required to undergo a Basic DBS check and must provide two references before a start date can be arranged.
Title of Role
The Cavern Supervisor
Purpose of Role
To enable people to become the best version of themselves by overseeing the running of The Cavern on a shift. This includes increasing sales, ensuring compliance with policies, effective management of volunteers and helping to deliver training and manage challenging behaviour. You would be running the shift as the 'manager on shift'.
Main Activities/Tasks
- To run the coffee shop when you are on shift including serving customers and maintaining the cleanliness of the environment
- To develop and train our team of volunteers
- To manage The Cavern environment, including dealing with any challenging behaviour
- To role model and promote customer service to a high standard
- To be able to lead volunteers and delegate relevant jobs
- To encourage and enthuse the team in their work
- To competently and confidently deal with customer complaints when necessary
- To be able to adhere to cash handling procedures such as cashing up, putting money in the safe, problem solving on the till, and so on
- To have a basic understanding of stock takes, booking in new stock, and our returns policy
- To build positive relationships with those that attend The Cavern regularly
- To attend training and regular professional development
- To work with the Manager and Deputy Managers under their leadership
- To work within the policies and procedures of Kingfisher Treasure Seekers
- To promote Kingfisher Treasure Seekers and its work
- Any other duties as required
Training and experience
Full training will be given during induction and on an ongoing basis.
- Experience of working in a coffee shop (preferred)
- Experience in a retail environment (desirable)
- Experience of working with people with learning disabilities (preferred)
Hours and pay
14 hours per week £10.75 per hour
