Nero Waffles is a local family owned restaurant started by Jan & Eilnaz Dierckx with a tiny shop on Robson street in 2012. It has since then expanded with a larger location on Seymour street. Nero Waffles focuses on authentic Belgian waffles for breakfast, brunch and dessert using local and fresh ingredients. We care about every aspect of the business; our staff, our customers, our quality. Through honesty and mutual respect we have achieved to create a fantastic local following and a great team of people who helped us achieve these things. The future is looking bright for Nero Waffles as we keep innovating and improving. Despite some setbacks during Covid we are confident about the future and even dare to dream about the future opening of a 3rd location.
The Role
Nero Waffles on Seymour is hiring a full time permanent Restaurant Manager. The Restaurant Manager is a key management role responsible for building, growing and managing a high performing FOH team while managing the daily operations of the business. The Restaurant Manager takes an active role on the floor to support, lead and inspire the service team. The ultimate measure of success is that each guest receives the best possible experience when dining at the Restaurant. The Restaurant Manager reports directly to the owners. The pay for this position is $24.50 per hour. Because the Restaurant Manager regularly serves customers, tips will be earned as well.
Specific Responsibilities:
ENSURING SUPERIOR QUALITY OF SERVICE
- Embodies the Steps of Service and ensures that they are met and adhered to by all Team Members.
- Takes an active role on floor each shift to support the team and stay aware of quality of guest service.
MANAGING & GROWING THE TEAM
- Manages, inspires and develops the Nero FOH team by setting a tone of mutual respect and high expectations
- Sets a tone of accountability and accessibility throughout the entire Restaurant, including FOH/BOH teams, maintenance crews, contractors and other members of the Team.
- In collaboration with Owners, recruits and hires for all FOH positions. Manages onboarding and training for all FOH positions.
- Ensures that all employees adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Nero Employee Handbook
MANAGING THE BUSINESS
- Writes the schedule for the FOH team. Ensures schedule is written to align with labour cost goals set by Owners.
- Works with Owner to control costs and create efficiencies in management of the Restaurant.
- Ensures menu items on POS system are accurate at all times.
- Occasionally it will be expected to help out in other departments of the business. Provide support to the Back of House team.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- Exemplifies and upholds Company Policies and Procedures, WCB Health and Safety regulations and BC Employment Standards at all times. This includes upholding and enforcing Nero’s policy of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment between any employees and those who work with Nero. Maintains employee confidentiality at all times.
UPHOLDING EXCELLENCE IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE STANDARDS
- Maintains and support the high standards of food and beverage quality and plate presentations set forth from Ownership.
- Meets and/or exceeds the Guest’s expectation in quality, value and presentation of all food and beverage items.
- In coordination with Kitchen Manager, ensures guest menus and Kitchen Books are kept updated and accurate.
MANAGING THE ATMOSPHERE
- Ensures the Interior Décor Standards, in the areas of music, lighting, décor and room temperature are strictly maintained at all times to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for the guest.
MANAGING THE FACILITY (CLEANLINESS AND MAINTENANCE)
- Manages the cleanliness standards of the FOH areas. Holds Team accountable for cleanliness. Follows all cleaning checklists

Skills Required
- Good verbal, reading and writing skills (English).
- Ability to clearly write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, suppliers, guests, and employees.
- Ability to accurately prepare timely information and reporting to demonstrate Restaurant performance.
Credentials and/or Experience Requirements
- Serving it Right
- Food Safe Level 1
- Experience in providing excellent customer services, preferably in a hospitality environment.
- Experience in a supervisory role in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
- Experience in a kitchen role or barista role is an asset but not a requirement,
- Experience in using POS Systems (Auphan), Inventory Management Systems, Employee Scheduling Systems (PUSH), MS Office Suite and Google Suite.
- Minimum of a post-secondary diploma or certificate.
- BC Driver’s License Level 5.
