The Residential Real Estate Mortgage Underwriter role is an opportunity for a talented experienced individual to join a fast paced, strategic growth environment within Citi Private Bank. An important role within the Residential mortgage lending team within the organisation. You will be part of a forward thinking team who provide solutions to clients on their residential property financing needs. You will be an experienced professional with comprehensive knowledge of the mortgage lifecycle and will work closely with internal and external business partners in order to drive business, whilst considering the risk and return for the Bank.
Responsibilities:
- Citi Private Bank Residential Real Estate Mortgage Underwriter will serve as the primary client contact for the mortgage throughout process, from initiation of inquiry to closing, maintaining proactive communication with client, Transactor and Private Banker at all times.
- Includes preparation, maintenance and communication of pipeline.
- Primary point of client contact for obtaining credit documents and clearing underwriting conditions.
- Serve as "product champion" for assigned business and as the primary resource to accumulate and communicate product information.
- Provide regular input to the Private Bankers, Associate Bankers and management in terms of MIS, competitive feedback, key client status reports, promotional opportunities, etc.
- Being responsible for all activities from registering applications through underwriting submission.
- Reviewing and following up on a frequent basis to process trailing documents as needed.
- Ability to obtain relevant information from clients, realtors, builder, title companies, appraisers, bankers, accountants or anyone associated with the origination process.
- Functioning as part of a deal team that requires effective participation and contribution. The position requires the individual to independently exert leadership and effectively orchestrate the assigned portion of the mortgage process.
- Excellent understanding of all aspects of loan programs and internal and external guidelines.
- Meet assigned qualitative and quantitative MBO's, as determined by line and product management jointly.
- Support, on specified basis, back-up needs for Loan Officer colleagues from other businesses / regions.
- Working knowledge ability to understand and interpret complex tax returns and cash flow statements to determine income.
- Understanding of complex mortgage structuring
- Attending regular Global Manager and Region Manager meetings and present product detail to Bankers.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- A good track record of experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience as an underwriter in the mortgage industry with a proven successful track history of results, Familiarity with all aspects of the mortgage origination process, including processing, underwriting, and closing.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and a high level of interpersonal and consultative skills.
- Strong team, client and service orientation.
- Problem solving ability / basic credit analysis skills.
- High level of mortgage product knowledge
- Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) Level 3
Education:
- Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
