Location: The Light House, Residential Unit St Mark’s Road, Derby, DE21 6AL
We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and committed individuals to deliver a residential short breaks service to disabled children and young people. The successful applicants will display a creative, patient and caring but dynamic approach to young people and must be able to create and follow care plans.
You will have experience of, and a genuine passion for, working with learning disabled young people aged 0 to 17 who may display complex challenging behaviours and may have a range of physical disabilities and clinical needs. Experience and knowledge of the impact of, and approaches to working with young people on the autistic spectrum, along with experience of working with young people who have complex needs such as sensory/communication difficulties and clinical needs is important.
You will be able to communicate effectively with young people and can build positive relationships with young people and their families, to enable young people’s care needs to be positively met.
You will understand the physical, emotional, and social needs of young people and their development and the role of short break care within this. You will be fun and child focussed and able to work as part of a team to plan and deliver care.
You must have excellent ability in written and numerical skills. Health and Social Care CYP NVQ 3 / Level 3 Diploma are desirable or the commitment to study to achieve this is essential.
Due to the nature of the post, applicants must be 22 years of age or above.
Shift work is an essential part of the post and includes evening and weekend working plus occasional sleep-in duties when required and waking night care in emergencies. You must be flexible and be able to change shifts to accommodate the needs of the service.
