The Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University invites applications for a Research Faculty position. LSI has a long and distinguished record of engagement in educational research and development in the United States, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Founded in 1969, it is one of the oldest, largest, and most productive university-based education research organizations in the United States, attracting more than $500 million in grants and contracts from 130 funding agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the State of Florida, UNICEF, and the U.S. Department of State. At present, approximately 100 LSI faculty and staff are engaged in more than twenty active projects (approximately $50 million in total funding) in Florida as well as in Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda, Lebanon, and the Philippines.
We seek a colleague with expertise in the evaluation of projects and policies in the field of education. LSI carries out both causal and non-causal monitoring, evaluation, and research projects for a variety of funders. The successful candidate will manage several of these projects, as well as develop proposals for future evaluation projects. The selected individual will supervise junior research faculty and graduate students working on these evaluation projects.
Approximately 20% of the successful candidate’s time will be dedicated to serving as a consulting methodologist on other LSI research projects, including collaboration on developing research questions, designing studies, and analyzing data.
Responsibilities
- Managing externally funded projects related to evaluation.
- Managing data sets for multi-year evaluations.
- Conducting quantitative data analyses using a variety of approaches.
- Writing reports, journal articles, and other deliverables.
- Developing and submitting grant proposals to potential funding agencies.
- Supervising junior project staff.
Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in education, education policy, or similar education and/or social science disciplines with a focus on evaluation.
- Demonstrable quantitative methods expertise.
- Demonstrated or potential for success in garnering external funding for research.
- Project management and managing large data sets experience.
- Excellent writing skills and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working with/for schools, governments, or other aspects of education systems.
