Purpose of the post
- Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
Responsibility for functions
- Staff who are responsible for the duties noted. Any plant, machinery in conjunction with the duties noted. Undertake tasks largely described as specialist work which will include the setting out of work and driving or operating heavy/complex plant and equipment requiring specialist skills
Main duties
Duties will include the need to work to precise levels and requirements in construction work in a number of tasks, for example:-
- Drain laying; trench timbering; manhole construction; shuttering; steel fixing; scaffolding; reinforced concreting; kerb laying; fencing; walling; flag and block paving and sewers in tunnels;
There is also a requirement to direct the work of lower graded operatives.
Other duties include:-
- The erection and removal of appropriate signs and barriers
- The preparation, application, compaction and removal of soils, rocks, coated and other materials
- Work on highway furniture and equipment including erection, fixing and/or dismantling;
- Planting and general maintenance of highways environs;
- Provide general support and assistance to skilled and specialist operatives
In addition to the requirement to drive or operate heavy/complex plant and equipment there is a requirement to drive vehicles and wheeled tractors with simple attachments and to operate powered hand tools; minor plant and machinery with the need for appropriate routine maintenance of all such vehicles and machinery such as oil/water checks and cleaning.
- Responsibility for self-development.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
- Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
- Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
- Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
- Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused
THERE IS A DUTY TO ENSURE THE SAFE OPERATION OF PLANT AND EQUIPMENT AT ALL TIMES WITH PARTICULAR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE WORKFORCE AND PUBLIC IN RELATION TO IT.
