The Research Hub Manager will be responsible for the on-going publicity, management, planning and co-ordination of the EPSRC CHEDDAR Communications Hub under the direction of Professor McCann. The post holder will be expected to maintain the communication and administrative structure for the project, in line with College guidelines and regulations, on time and within budget.
The CHEDDAR Communications Hub will drive research and networking across the UK academic community through Project and Platform funding, and will facilitate the connection of UK excellence, to harness brave new ideas pertaining to digital communications for Cloud and Distributed systems. This will examine new emerging computation (such as Quantum, neuromorphic), as well as new ways to network these systems with more traditional computing, and all with an end-user focus. We aim to co-create a cohesive research ecosystem nurturing talent and emerging blue horizon ideas, nationally and internationally.
The position of the CHEDDAR Research Hub Manager presents a novel opportunity to work alongside Professor McCann and her UK wide Hub team in realizing their full potential and planning for the future. CHEDDAR is a close collaboration of academics and researchers from Imperial, Cranfield, York, Leeds, Glasgow and Durham Universities as well as partners from industry. The partner list is expected to grow as the Hub activities commence. Professor McCann is the PI of this currently 3-year EPSRC funded Hub.

Duties and responsibilities
- To be responsible for the management of the Hub grant, its budgets and accounts, and to coordinate and distribute financial progress reports as necessary.
- To monitor budget expenditure to ensure compliance with sponsors’ terms and conditions. To provide advice to investigators and advanced warning of any issues resulting from delays in expenditure. To liaise, where necessary, with Research Services to identify and resolve potential problems.
- To manage the engagement with the sponsors (EPSRC), the grant’s academic partners and other stakeholders from industry, academia, and government.

Manage the regular cycles of events thus:
- Run the Scoping projects and Synergy Platforms finances, calls for proposals, reviewing etc. and liaise with each of the colleges’ key financial personnel.
- Arrange the monthly meetings, agenda, speakers etc.
- Manage the Secondment and Internship sub-committees and make arrangements for these visits, and their finances.
- Supervise the Industry and Innovation Forum logistics and agenda.
- Arrange the Annual Mid-Winter Festival logistics and finances.
- Co-arrange and manage logistics and finances for public engagement through exhibitions etc with the Comms Sub-Committee working to inclusive design principles.
- Manage the logistics and finances for the Inter-Hub consortium meetings.
- Manage the International workshop logistics and finances.
- To coordinate the quarterly and annual project reports and to keep up-to-date finance and administrative records to meet audit requirements and provide financial advice and support to the relevant academic staff and students.
- Support Synergy fellows in terms of arranging travel and other financial aspects.
- Support the Hub’s Public Engagement and Online Presence in terms of a website that describes our work (videos, papers, posters, and software), our people, and host our podcast portal, reports and articles, and press releases. This includes the proactive management of the Hub’s Social media presence on the typical sites (FB, Twitter, etc), including populating portals to include calls for seed funding, newsletters, job adverts etc.
- To ensure that all communications are on brand.
To assist with the day-to-day running of the AESE research group and proactive management of the group’s research web pages and social media output
Essential requirements
- An undergraduate or Masters degree
- A Level, or equivalent qualifications or experience, in mathematics and/or accounting
- Experience with publicity, such as scientific writing or the creation of web pages, including hosting a social media presence.
- Experience in managing scientific or industrial projects.
- Budget management experience
