Research Fellow in Human Factors Southampton, England

University of Southampton
Full Time Southampton, England 34980 - 42978 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

2449923DA

In the future, autonomous systems are poised to become widely available to assist us with our mobility throughout our day to day lives. Autonomous robots could effectively maintain the infrastructure of our cities, dependably manage our road traffic to maximise flow and minimise the environmental impact. However, current autonomous systems are limited by their reduced resilience. They cannot avoid, withstand, recover from, adapt, and evolve to handle uncertainty, change, faults, failure, adversity, and disruption. Human Factors offers the ability to enhance the resiliency of automated systems by applying a sociotechnical systems approach to the integration of automated technologies to our road transport networks, allowing human capabilities, system performance and organisational regulation to be captured.

You will join our friendly and collaborative team to lead research on the REsilient Autonomous SOcio-cyber-physical AgeNts (REASON) project which sits within the Trustworthy Autonomous System (TAS www.tas.ac.uk). This will involve working collaboratively with other researchers within the project from different disciplines, including computer science, psychology, law and ethics, to understand the requirements for resilient autonomous system. The project will predominantly focus on the application of automated within the road transport domain but will apply methods and theories that are applicable across other domains of autonomy also.

It is essential you have or be near completion of, a PhD in Human Factors, or Psychology or equivalent professional qualifications and experience with applications to engineering and transportation.
