An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join the Faculty of Medicine, School of Human Development and Health based at Southampton University Hospital Trust. This post will be part of a project which aims to identify the effect of antioxidant dietary supplements upon immune biomarkers in healthy older adults. This will be achieved through immunological assays including phenotyping and functional flow cytometry, ELISA and multiplex Luminex assays, metabolomics and microbiome analysis. The research will seek to identify biomarkers of immune ageing (immunosenescence) and their interactions with functional immune outcomes and responses to supplementation.
The post holder will have primary responsibility for the laboratory processing and cryopreservation of samples, and will undertake a range of immunology methods including primary cell culture. The role will require regular presentations of results to the research team and study funders, and at public and scientific dissemination events including national and international conferences.
This role requires expertise in flow cytometry and cell culture. In addition, experience in method development to design and optimise assays will also be required. The postholder will have good organisational skills to ensure that the study database and statistical analysis of the data is clear, quality controlled and accessible to other members of the research team.
The post will be aligned to the Faculty of Medicine, School of Human Development and Health based at Southampton General Hospital campus.
- Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
