About us

The UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are designed to educate Engineers in a dynamic and exciting learning environment. The Department has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas and has consistently been among the best funded such departments in the UK.

The research carried out in the department reflects a broad multidisciplinary view of the engineering world and encompasses navigation of space shuttles and control of observation satellites, to tunnelling beneath the planet’s surface, for example. Research projects and centres span disciplines to provide new and innovative solutions and thinking that refers back to the human and the applied.

The project work will be carried out at UCL’s multi-disciplinary Here East laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Peter Scully (BSA).

About the role

The post is part of the project DELTA - Digitally Enhanced Low-cost Technology for Aerostructures, a large-scale research project with multiple research partners led by Airbus. The post holder will be responsible for developing a holistic manufacturing strategy that enables the incorporation of metrology knowledge within Design. They will be responsible for the development of new Design approaches to industrial processes, their deployment and subsequent running of a series of experiments to validate performance.

The role will be funded until 30 June 2025 in the first instance.

About you

We are seeking a technically skilled person with both academic and industrial experience in design, development and implementation of metrology systems for Manufacturing.

Advanced methods of Manufacture are increasing leaning on “in process” metrology as digitally manufactured components become the vast majority assemblies. We expect familiarity with a wide range of design environments and their pathways through to digital production environments. You will also have demonstrable experience in measurement systems within established and novel production environments.
