Averill Creek Vineyard is looking for new people to join our Vineyard crew.
Multiple positions available. This is a seasonal position from now until the end of August/September. We are ideally looking for two couples or a group of friends interested in spending the summer working outside on a beautiful mountainside vineyard.
The vineyard worker helps with all vineyard operations and tasks, from spring pruning to fall harvest. Working with a team of Vineyard workers, you will be responsible for the day-to-day care and function of the vineyard of Averill Creek Winery. Tasks vary daily, and outdoor, physical labour is regular parts of the routine. Tasks include pruning, weeding, hedging, general maintenance and repair, groundskeeping and other duties required for the upkeep of the vineyard. Be a part of a hard working, fun team that are passionate about viticulture in the Cowichan Valley.
Accommodation: Shared onsite accommodation available
Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Conditions: This is a farm-work position that requires outdoor work in all conditions, and may require some heavy lifting or physical labour
Qualifications
- No experience or education required, but prior vineyard or farming/landscaping experience is an asset.
- Willingness to take detailed direction and perform all tasks thoroughly and safely.
- Ability to work well as part of a team, but comfortable/happy working alone
- Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time.
- Enjoy working outdoors and willing to get dirty
- Good attitude
- This is a seasonal, hourly position, with a finishing date of August 31st, however, potential for extension
- Reliable transportation to and from work
Responsibilities
- Canopy Management: pruning, tying, shoot thinning, tucking, shoot positioning, leaf thinning, hedging, weeding
- Trellis Maintenance; general repairs of trellis systems.
- Irrigation Maintenance
- Comply with all company policies and regulations.
- Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as directed by manager/supervisor.
