We are looking for an experienced engineer! This exciting new role reports into our Engineered Design Software Owner, will be responsible for challenging and improving engineering within our Truss, Floor and Wall Design Software, creating new solutions with a view to enable our customer base to gain commercial advantage as well as following and implementing new & exciting industry standards within fast-growing, fast-moving timber construction.
Working closely to leverage market and customer insight, the R&D Engineer will be a critical factor in our continuous software and business development and commercial success.
Primary responsibilities:
- Support the ongoing review of products performance and range offerings as appropriate in line with business strategy and industry building standards.
- Ownership, alongside Engineered Design Software Manager, for product underwriting and ensuring testing data is maintained and accurately communicated to key stakeholders.
- Implement Connectors product range revisions as guided by the Connectors R&D Manager.
- Responsibility for reviewing, maintaining, and communicating technical/engineering data related to our software product offerings.
- Collation of information, preparation, and submission of product approvals to meet industry requirements (for example TRA and STA).
- In collaborating with Connectors R&D Manager, apply engineering and technical knowledge to manage and maintain quality control, supporting both internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify and execute new engineering opportunities within software and physical products to enable growth and simplification of business unit.
- Build relationships with external stakeholders within the industry and its governing bodies to leverage insight for product development and commercial growth.
- Diligent approach to ensure the organization is developing new and existing products that meet customer needs, changing workplace trends, legislative requirements for the industry.
- Delivery of product and technical training internally as required.
- Any other related engineering or technical support as required by the business unit.
Structural or civil engineering degree with experience applying this to timber frame and/or construction.- Aptitude for learning and comfortable learning by experience.
- Experience dealing with complex data in an analytical way.
- Ability to create engineered design remedies in timber applications.
- Proactive and creative with a genuine passion for product engineering
- Ability to challenge the status quo.
- Ability to say “no” and drive simplicity in the business.
- Experience of AutoCAD/Autodesk inventor is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong presentations skills
