Job Description
We are seeking to appoint a Research Coordinator to work within a respected multidisciplinary team led by Professor Deb Pal and be involved in a programme of research that could transform our understanding of childhood epilepsy and rare developmental disorders. The position is funded until 31st July 2024.
The current research portfolio includes a NIHR funded multisite clinical trial CASTLE Sleep-E, a CIHR funded international epilepsy genetic study BIOJUME with Professor Lisa Strug at the University of Toronto, and an MRC Rare Disease Node on mTOR diseases with Professor Joseph Bateman.
You will provide administrative support to the Research Project Manager on all these studies and to the general running of the laboratory team's activities. Much of the work focuses on managing and supporting the sites involved in the multisite studies. The tasks include onboarding new sites with site inductions; closing out sites; responding to enquiries about the study protocol, documentation and procedures; the labelling, handling and shipping of biosamples; monitoring and replenishing sampling kits; ordering supplies and consumables; tracking the flow of data and samples to the laboratory; regular QA meetings to assess and optimise data quality; generating data summaries from the REDCAP database and making action plans regarding recruitment and data collection. In addition, there will be some data entry to the databases, assistance with virtual, internal and offsite in-person meetings, updating the study website and Twitter accounts and general administrative duties.
This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract until July 31st 2024.
This is a part-time post – 80% FTE**.**
Key responsibilities
To become familiar with the research projects' Description of Work, and KCL’s contractual obligations to the projects
To assist and help with the preparation and submission of research ethics and governance documents as required
To maintain online case report forms for projects within the portfolio using RedCap software
To assist with and monitor the collection of clinical information via online case report forms
To maintain several study databases using Filemaker and Progeny software
To manage data and enter information in the study databases
To assist the laboratory technician with managing study related consumables
To maintain a study website and social media accounts
To participate in teleconferences and meetings with members of the project consortiums
To support the Research Project Manager in organising collaborators meetings and meeting paperwork
To flexibly undertake other work related to CASTLE and other projects within the portfolio as required.
To assist in organising conferences, workshops and other events with stakeholders.
You will be required to demonstrate knowledge of using RedCap databases.
You will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and will be able to communicate effectively with clinical and research staff at all levels. Previous experience in conducting research in the NHS or previous experience working in a clinical environment is an advantage.
You will work in close collaboration and liaise with the Research Project Manager and under the overall supervision of Professor Deb Pal.
Familiarity with research governance processes and Good Clinical Practice and previous experience in clinical research in epilepsy is an advantage.
The post will be based at the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute located on the Denmark Hill Campus.
Skills, knowledge, and experience
Essential criteria
- A relevant degree or Access to Higher Education Certificate in a health and social care related subject (e.g. biology, psychology, social science, neuroscience)
- Ability to follow research guidelines and protocols
- Knowledge of data confidentiality and GDPR
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of Research & Development governance arrangements for clinical research set-up in the UK
- Experience of working in higher education research or an NHS environment
- Experience liaising with clinicians and other researchers in a clear and organised manner
- Experience in monitoring the flow of incoming research data
- Excellent team working skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.

- Expertise with databases, e.g RedCap
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with overseas organisations.
