Job description
The ALBORADA Drug Discovery Institute (ADDI), part of the University of Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) (http://cambridge-ddi.alzheimersresearchuk.org/), is seeking a Research Associate with a strong background in mechanistic biology to join its established team. The ADDI is part of a network of world-class Drug Discovery Institutes, funded by Alzheimer's Research UK, forming the Alzheimer's Research UK Drug Discovery Alliance. The work of the ADDI at Cambridge is aimed at validating new drug targets and identifying potential new drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease as well as other types of neurodegeneration.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in the mechanistic validation and analysis of biological targets and pathways. Working with targets in the nervous system, you will be responsible for designing and performing studies to validate the link between molecular targets and neurodegenerative mechanisms, and for carrying out studies to characterise and assess compounds emerging from our drug discovery pipeline. This is a highly collaborative role; you will work alongside colleagues in the screening and in vivo teams and with medicinal and computational chemists to progress projects from target identification through to in vivo proof of concept models. The successful candidate will have an enthusiastic and proactive mindset, along with the ability to troubleshoot and optimise methods and an aptitude for data analysis. In addition to potentially supervising junior staff, you will be intellectually involved and contribute towards the research programme of the ADDI. This is an exciting opportunity to join a cutting-edge drug discovery team focusing on the diseases that cause dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in any discipline of Life Science or related subject. Applicants will be expected to be organised, self-motivated, flexible when required, eager to identify and implement improvements to protocols and study design, and to be a team player. Time-management and record-keeping skills, and interpersonal and communication skills are also expected.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
