As part of an exciting new partnership between University of Nottingham, University of Strathclyde and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), we are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher to develop and apply novel catalytic and electrochemical reactions for the synthesis of target molecules relevant to the pharmaceutical and related industries. This project will involve the investigation of state of the art electrochemistry and catalytic systems using advanced spectroscopy, modelling and theory, this project will be supervised by Pete Licence and Mike George. This project will be hosted by the school of Chemistry in Nottingham and you will work in laboratories spanning the GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory (link) and facilities based on University Park. As a core project within this Prosperity Partnership this project will involve collaboration with scientists at GlaxoSmithKline and the University of Strathclyde.

Candidates must:

  • Hold a PhD (or expect their PhD award by mid-2023) in synthetic organic or catalytic chemistry.
  • Be available to take up the post by 1st September 2023
  • Show demonstrated excellence and productivity in synthetic organic or electrochemical mediated synthesis chemistry.
  • Have excellent organisational and good communication and team working skills.

Additional experience in the use of CHEM21 metrics would be useful but not vital for this post.

It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with researchers at the University of Strathclyde and GSK and will have an opportunity to undertake a secondment at one or both partner institutions.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours), fixed term post for 12 months. Arrangements for job share may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Peter Licence [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
