We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Assistant to join the Gonococcal Vaccine Project at the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine. You will support the ongoing programme of vaccine development, production and characterization. The primary focus will be to perform assays to produce, scale-up and control the vaccine preparations.
You will be responsible for designing, optimizing and performing ELISAs, ELISpot, and other humoral and cell-based assays to characterise immune responses to gonococcal OMV in a systematic and consistent manner. You will perform bacterial culture, OMV purification and characterisation at laboratory scale, and follow and adapt experimental protocols and provide input for laboratory SOPs. You will be responsible for participating in research programmes of preclinical and vaccine development, and gathering, analysing, and presenting scientific data from the work undertaken.
It is essential that you hold a BSc in a relevant biological sciences subject and have a keen interest in immunology of infectious diseases. You will be self-motivated, technically competent and capable of working independently in a laboratory, along with good communication skills, including the ability to present data at meetings. It is essential you have practical experience of following SOPs and running assays in a laboratory environment.
