The focus of the research is performing isolation, purification and identification of primary human placental trophoblast cells using laser capture microdissection. The SRA will isolate DNA, RNA and protein from the dissected trophoblast cells for genomic, epigenomic, and proteomic studies. The SRA will be trained under the direction of senior scientists for cytotrophoblast cell isolation, placental tissue preservation, tissue sectioning, immuno-staining, laser capture microdissection, DNA isolation, RNA isolation, and protein extraction. As the SRA learns these experiments and is able to repeat the experiments successfully, the supervisors will delegate responsibilities and a project to the incumbent. The SRA will be responsible for presenting the research progress every 3 months.
The SRA shall be flexible and conform to irregular work hours that may be needed of Lab for work 24/7 (weekends, holidays and so on). If needed, the SRA will act as a liaison between the research team and the clinical staff. If needed, the SRA will collect placenta tissue from various sites in San Francisco (Mission Bay L & D, ZSFG and Mt Zion Women’s Option Center, and other sites as needed) and to prepare the tissue for experiments.
Duties further include making buffers and reagents, maintaining tissue collection, assisting with lab equipment maintenance, and performing all other duties as assigned as designated by the PI and senior scientists.
